Sport Fitness Studio The Fitness Studio will closed after 3pm this week due to lack of care of the equipment. Students who wish to use the facility may do so during lunchtime only - conditions apply. See Mrs Manuel. Protein Bars Protein Bars come in 5 yummy flavours. With 38% more protein and 38% less sugar than a regular chocolate bar, these are guaranteed to satisfy and are better for you! The bars are $2.00 each and will be on sale from next week. Career Lifeguard Course There is an opportunity for senior students to train as swimming pool lifeguards. You will have to commit to doing a weekend Lifeguard course and getting a First Aid Certificate. There will be a good chance of work experience and paid work over the summer holidays. See Ms Burton in the Careers Office if you are interested. Weltec 5 Day Course Term 3 Weltec have some 5 day courses coming up this term in Bricklaying and Landscaping, Painting Houses, and Hairdressing. They are all in Petone and you will have the opportunity to achieve some level 2 credits and gain new skills - also to test out a potential career. Please see Ms Burton in the Careers Office to put your name down Defence Forces Experience Day The Army, Navy and Airforce are combining and running 2 experience days in Trentham in the next school holidays. You need to be 16 to attend. If you are interested in joining any of the armed forces you need to attend one of these courses while you are still at school. See Ms Burton in the Careers Office to apply. Russell McVeagh Mentoring Our next meeting in Wellington has had a date change - it is now Tuesday 28 June - Not Wednesday 29 June. Ms Burton will have room for 3 students in her car. Please let her know if you can't attend Big Construction Tour The BCITO has organised a Big Construction Tour around Wellington construction and building industry worksites to see the industry in action on Thursday 7 July. If you would like to take part in one of the few places we have allocated to our school come to the Careers Office. You will spend the whole day visiting industry sites and lunch will be provided. See Ms Burton in the Careers Office to put your name down New Senior Girl's Mentoring Programme Naenae College has been lucky to be chosen to be the first school in Wellington to have the WOMENTOR programme. It is for about 20 girls in Year 12 and 13. This programme will give you extra skills to help you transition successfully from school to work or tertiary education. It will involve you committing to 10 sessions on Thursday mornings at 8.30am - no late start for these keen girls. A different Mentor will attend each week to talk about subjects such as goal setting, organisational skills, interview techniques, building confidence and resilience etc. There will be an information Session with 4 Mentors talking on Friday 1st July in LAR time in Room 30. If you would like to attend this session before you commit come and put your name down at the Careers Office. Otago University Year 12 and 13 students - Noella Dushime, who attended Naenae College, and now is in her 3rd year at Otago University studying oral health will be in the Library in LAR time this Tuesday. She will talk about her experiences moving away from home to attend university in Dunedin, doing health, sciences, intermediate, her passion for oral health and tertiary education. If you are thinking of attending Otago or any NZ university come and listen. Naenae Library Naenae library will be holding a board games evening for ages 10+ on Tuesday 5 July, 5pm to 7.30pm.
