COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for students who are intending to pursue Physical Education studies at a higher
level. It combines both the theoretical and practical aspects of Physical Education. Students will make
connections between the knowledge they gain in the classroom with their effort and performance in
practical activities. The units will cover Anatomy and Physiology, Societal factors and influences,
Interpersonal Skills, Quality Movement and Active Participation. The Achievement Standards offered in
this course ensure that students are prepared for Physical Education 201.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 10 Level 1 PED credits including AS90963 or approved by HOD.
ASSESSMENT: Level 2 Achievement Standards, all internally assessed
COURSE COST: $30 PE t-shirt (compulsory) $50 (approx.) for outdoor activities relevant to Risk Management Standard

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is a continuation of PED101. It combines both the practical and theoretical aspects of Physical Education, the theory component makes up 70% of the course. Students will be assessed on their performance in a particular sport and will implement and analyse the effectiveness of a performance improvement programme. They will be required to critically analyse a current physical event and how it impacts on New Zealand society. The Achievement Standards offered in this course ensure students are prepared for Physical Education 301.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a University approved subject that combines both theory and practical aspects of Physical Education. This course focuses on theoretical learning and making connections with personal practical experiences and performances. Students will be required to critically evaluate and challenge assumptions around a range of Physical Education contexts. These include, Skill analysis, Biophysical and Leadership principles and Sociocultural factors.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for students who have a passion for practical learning and would like to pursue a career in sport, coaching, exercise prescription or the outdoors. Students will also need to learn theoretical concepts and apply this knowledge to their practical performance. The Achievement and Unit Standards offered in this course will prepare students for Sport Studies at Level 2.

TOTAL CREDITS: 16 Unit Standards credits 8 Achievement standard credits
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course combines both practical and theoretical elements. Students will be assessed on their performance of a physical activity in an applied setting and will study basic anatomy in relation to different sport skills. They will also demonstrate leadership strategies and evaluate them in a coaching environment. There will be opportunities to take part in adventure based learning, as well as day tramps and overnight camps. Once the Unit Standards are successfully completed, students will also gain a Certificate of Achievement in Sport Studies Programme (Level 2) from the Manukau Institute of Technology.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to consolidate prior learning along with engaging in new topics and focusing on practical skill development. Students will look at the role of a coach, apply leadership skills and evaluate their performance. Students will gain the skills to plan and run a recreation event and then put this into practice. Students will learn exercise techniques and show their knowledge of these in a practical context. Upon successful completion of the Unit Standards, students will also gain a Certificate of Achievement in Sport Studies Programme (Level 3) from the Manukau Institute ofTechnology.
