Whanau Guidance System To encourage involvement in co-curricular activities, each student and staff member is allocated into one of the four Whanau's – Amo, Koruru, Maihi and Tokomanawa. Students from the same families are placed in the same Whanau. The names selected for the Whanau connect to our school marae, Te Whanau Tahi (One Family) and to our core values. Amo - The front carved vertical side panels of the wharenui (meeting house) and represents strength and solidarity. Koruru - The figurehead at the top in the centre of the wharenui (meeting house). It signifies the thinking and academic achievement that takes place at Naenae College. Maihi - The outstretched arms and hands of the bargeboards on the front of the wharenui (meeting house) embracing the diversity of cultures at Naenae College. Tokomanawa - Is the heart of the wharenui (meeting house) and represents commitment to the core values of Te Whanau Tahi. Whanau competitions provide occasions to express school spirit and give students a sense of belonging. Students are also provided with wider leadership opportunities in organising participation in activities such as the athletic sports and dodgeball competitions. | ![]() |
