School Formal Night: Information

27 June 2022

Dear Students/Partners/Parents and Caregivers

It is time again for the Senior Formal.  This event has been in the past, a very successful celebration for our students and we are hoping to continue the tradition by once again making this night a fun and an enjoyable experience for all.

This year the Formal for Years 12 and 13 will be held at the Lower Hutt Events Centre in Lower Hutt on Saturday 20 August.  Students need to be at school by 6.30pm for the bus to leave on time.  The function will begin at 7.00pm and finish at 11:30 pm for the bus to return students to Naenae College by 11:45pm. Everyone will travel to and from the venue in the buses leaving from the College with no exceptions, students will also remain inside the venue until it is time to leave.

This is a special modern venue, however, as is the tradition those attending will all travel in by bus.  At the end of the Formal the buses will collect everyone and bring students back to school.  The expectation is that all students will leave the Lower Hutt Events Centre at the end of the formal and travel back to College via bus.  Families are asked to ensure arrangements are made to collect students from school.

This is a school function where our school’s Code of Behaviour applies.  There is no consumption of alcohol, drugs or smoking.  You are responsible for your own and your partner’s compliance with the Code.  Students who appear or are suspected of breaching the Code of Behaviour, will be admitted only at the Principal’s discretion.

The cost per ticket is $95.00 which includes dinner, drinks, DJ, photographer and bus travel.  Copies of the photos will be available to students following the Formal and details on how to access the photos will be released closer to the date.

Please complete the attached form, including you and your partner’s details, and return it to Miss Calcutt (Senior Assistant Principal) for approval by Friday 29th July.  Tickets may then be purchased from the Cashier at the Front Office from Monday 1st August.  All tickets must be purchased by lunchtime on Friday 5 August.  All payments or payment arrangements must be completed by this date also.  The tickets will then be distributed on Friday 19th August, the week of the Formal, at a special assembly in period 3.

This promises to be another great event in Naenae College’s 2022 calendar.  We look forward to seeing you there and enjoying this wonderful occasion.

Tēnā koutou katoa Greetings all

Wishing you all a restful Matariki long weekend, beginning the
period of remembrance of loved ones, being thankful and looking
ahead with hope and expectation.
The last two weeks have seen our senior students rostered home
in response to increased staff illnesses. Rostering will continue
until the end of the next week, Friday 1 July 2022. This temporary
measure has had a positive impact on student and staff morale.
We are all appreciative of the collective efforts of all whānau in
supporting this decision.
Finally, it was fantastic to see a strong turnout for our Open
Evening last night to share ‘Te Whānau Tahi’ with prospective new
students and their whānau. It has been a while since we’ve hosted
families and expect another good attendance from many of you at
our Parent Report Meetings next Wednesday.

Kia noho haumaru (Stay safe)

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Parent Teacher Report Evening – Wednesday 29 June 2022

We wish to inform parents/caregivers of upcoming school events and changes to our normal school hours.

To allow staff to set up for the Parent Teacher Report Evening on Wednesday 29 June, all students will finish early at 12.45pm.  The evening will enable parents and caregivers to discuss the mid-year report with the subject teacher concerned.  This way we can work together so that all students experience success and build a meaningful, challenging educational pathway for their future.

Senior Students to Roster Home: End of Next Week

Tēnā koutou e te whānau.

Re: Senior Students Rostered Home

We are drawing to the end of week six and have successfully completed planned events with minimal disruption.  Winter and covid illnesses were signaled as likely threats to schools being able to maintain continuity of teaching and learning for students as the term progressed.  Some schools in our region have already rostered students home due to illness of staff.  The level of illness among Naenae College staff has reached a point where the quality of learning for students is likely to be impacted if we did not act now.  Therefore, beginning next week in consultation with my Senior Management Team, I have decided to roster senior student year groups home as follows:

Wednesdays, 15 & 22 June:       Year 13 students rostered home

Thursdays, 16 & 23 June:            Year 11 students rostered home

Fridays, 17 & 24 June:                 Year 12 students rostered home

Review:  Thur 23 June and community notified.

Students will not be required to come home with school devices on their respective days.  A designated room with computers will be available for students to come to college and access online learning that teachers have provided.

I apologise for any inconvenience this decision may have on families but this should ease the current pressure off staff and ultimately students.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Ngā mihi
